Coral Springs, Florida is a master-planned Broward County community with 121,096 residents in 24 square miles—one of southwestern Florida's largest cities. Unlike organically developed cities, Coral Springs was strategically designed before construction began.
Henry Lyons purchased 20,000 acres of marshlands from 1911-1939. After 1947 floods, Florida established the South Florida Water Management District, building canals and levees that drained uninhabitable marsh. The area operated as bean farm until the 1950s when Lyons' heirs switched to cattle ranching.
Post-WWII South Florida's real estate boom ignited development. In 1961, developers bought 3,869 acres from Lyons family for $1 million, planning 50,000 residents. After earning $1.6 million from 536 lots, Coral Ridge Properties purchased 6,000 acres. Initially Florida's safest, crime-free city, Coral Springs experienced teen gang violence and murders in the 1990s from Miami drug trade spillover.
From master-planned communities to waterfront properties, Coral Springs homeowners need professional lawn care, landscaping, irrigation management, and year-round yard maintenance for South Florida's subtropical climate, intense heat, and continuous grass growth.
